Dinner in Wonderland
A late summer’s ball ends with a mysterious
candle lit fine dining experience at Cowley Manor Experimental
Photography & Film by The Falkenburgs
During an exclusive hire of Cowley Manor Experimental in the Cotswolds, for their final dinner with their closest loved ones, C&J ended their celebrations with ‘A Late Summer’s Ball’. Having previously hosted a pre-wedding dinner, with a bright, zesty and vibrant palette, this final dinner welcomed darkness and mystery.
With much of Cowley Manor’s ambience centred around tumbling down the rabbit hole and into wonderland, we worked to the brief of ‘A most curious assembly.’ Together with Fabulous Wedding Flowers, Ink & Paper stationery and Cowley Manor we designed a space that would transform the restaurant area.
Guests were encouraged to find their seats via a twisted and curling display of hazelwood, upon which hung their place setting and dance cards. With a nod to Alice in Wonderland, the tables were split into Clubs, Hearts, Diamonds and Spades, each depicted in the design.
Entering the dining room they were met with a large rectangle of tables adorned with ornate, architectural branches, interwoven with moss and sprawling ivy sprawling. Metre-high tapered candles and ivy-wrapped candelabra reached towards the ceiling, while each place setting contained personalised earthy green letter-pressed menus detailing the head chef’s custom-designed dinner
Julie’s reaction says it all: “We had a very vague but still somehow weirdly specific vision for the flowers for our final evening ball, but we were struggling a bit to land on a table scheme for the dinner. For me personally, this was the only decor I cared about.
Constance reassured us it would be beautiful, I sort of smiled dubiously. My goodness was I ashamed of my doubt. She came to find us at cocktail hour to show us the room before our guests, and my eyes welled up with tears at the beauty. She had perfectly understood us and delivered something far beyond our hopes. I had managed not to cry during the ceremony and here I was blubbering over our gorgeous room!”
